Whether in a movie or TV show, everybody loves finding Easter eggs. But did you know it can also be found in software and hardware? Here are some of the most notable Easter eggs in the industry: -The first egg: The first-ever Easter egg to appear in software was found in a game called Adventure, released in 1979 for the Atari 2600. Creator Warren Robinett put his name in the game behind a secret room opened through a special sequence of actions. -Donkey Kong: In another Atari game, you can see the initials of a coder who worked on it after Mario loses his life at the hands of the big monkey. -Komani Code: First used in Konami’s Gradius game, this code became infamous because of Contra. When the button sequence is used, players get 30 lives instead of three, which has also been programmed in dozens of other games. -Book of Mozilla: If you visit “about:Mozilla,” in either Netscape or Firefox, a red background will be displayed, along with a variety of apocalyptic quotes and doomsday prophecies. -Google: Over the years, Google has hidden numerous Easter eggs, including the barrel roll command and anagram features. In addition, Google Maps has incorporated a variety of pop culture references, including the Bat signal.

Need a laugh? We’ve compiled some of the best puns programmers will appreciate. Why did the programmer quit his job? Because he didn’t get any arrays. What was the SNES programmers’ favorite drink? Sprite. What do programmers do when they’re hungry? They grab a byte. What’s Jedi’s favorite programming language? JabbaScript. Why couldn’t the programmer dance to the song? Because he didn’t get the algo-rhythm. What do you call it when computer programmers make fun of each other? Cyber Boolean. Why did the programmer get a huge telephone bill? Because his program was calling a lot of subroutines. What do Spanish programmers code in? Sí ++. Why was the programmer always running into walls? He couldn’t see sharp. Which way did the programmer go? He went data way!

NIST Releases Major Update to its Cybersecurity Framework: Changes with NIST CSF 2.0: Expanded Scope: The framework is no longer limited to critical infrastructure but applies to all organizations, regardless of size or industry. Focus on Governance: A new "Govern" function emphasizes the importance of leadership involvement in cybersecurity decision-making. Supply Chain Security: The framework now includes guidance on managing risks associated with vendors and suppliers. Easier Implementation: NIST has created a suite of resources to help organizations implement the framework, including: - Quick-start guides for specific audiences (e.g., small businesses) - Success stories showcasing real-world implementations - A searchable catalog of relevant cybersecurity resources - A new reference tool for browsing and exporting framework data https://lnkd.in/edn_GaX5 #CybersecurityCommunity #NIST #GammaForce

While #Software development is mostly a serious business, this doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun occasionally! Here are some of our favorite jokes sure to make engineers chuckle. How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb? None – It’s a hardware problem. How did the programmer die in the shower? He read the shampoo bottle instructions: Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Why do programmers always mix up Halloween and Christmas? Because Oct 31 equals Dec 25. Debugging is like being the detective in a crime movie where you’re also the murderer. An SQL query goes into a bar, walks up to two tables, and asks, “Can I join you?” What is Java code call a C code? You have no class. When I wrote this code, only me and God knew how it works. Now only God knows… Give a man a program and frustrate him for a day. Teach a man to program, frustrate him for a lifetime. There are 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. Why was the DBA divorced? Because the DBA has one too many relationships. If you put a million monkeys at a million keyboards, one of them will eventually write a Java program. The rest of them will write C# programs.

When you’re in #software development, it’s a wise idea to pay attention to the trends in the industry. Knowing what’s happening now – and what’s coming down the pike – can help you figure out what you should focus on and the new skills and knowledge you may need. Here are 4 trends we’re keeping a close eye on for 2024 and beyond: 1. Low-code and no-code: To create a simpler and faster way of developing software, many engineers are turning to low-code or no-code, which doesn’t require coding skills. It can be a great way to prototype before building more. 2. Malicious software: Cybercrime is expected to increase over the next several years. We’re relying on tech more and more, which can impact our businesses. This means that companies may need to boost their cybersecurity investments. 3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML): Both AI and ML are innovating yearly and have a wide range of applications across industries, including healthcare, finance, transportation, entertainment, and more. They are being used to automate processes, improve decision-making, enhance productivity, and create personalized user experiences. 4. The IoT: By 2025, it’s estimated that there will be 65 billion IoT devices, compared to about 10 billion in 2018.

Ethical hacking involves identifying vulnerabilities in systems and fortifying security. By proactively identifying and addressing potential threats, ethical hackers play a pivotal role in enhancing cybersecurity. Software engineering differs from ethical hacking in that it focuses on creating software rather than accessing networks. Ethical hacking concentrates specifically on cybersecurity, while software engineering involves developing tools like DevOps. However, both fields require extensive technical expertise and soft skills such as communication and teamwork. Despite their differences, ethical hacking and software engineering share common ground. Both demand comprehensive knowledge, technical proficiency, and collaboration among team members. These disciplines are integral to various industries, contributing to innovation and security.

While technical ability and knowledge are certainly important, other traits are just as essential, including empathy. When you’re an empathetic engineer, this enables you to: -See things from different perspectives: Empathy involves feeling what others are feeling. This will allow you to see the product you are working on from the end-user perspective, which will help guide its development. -Be a great team member: When you can see things from different points of view – and put yourself in the shoes of others – this allows for better collaboration with your co-workers, which can improve the dynamics of the team. -Learning from failure: Blameless post-mortems and other practices are common in healthy engineering cultures. Learn, grow, and improve the team and organization. Here is an example: https://buff.ly/3vK1dyV -Be more innovative: An empathetic environment fosters creativity. Encouraging people to experiment without worrying about making mistakes allows for more innovation, which will help both developers and the overall company.
